Exchange in Biology

When can you go on exchange during your studies?

You can go on study exchange during Bachelor year 3, or in either of your Master years:

• In Bachelor year 3 - 1st semester
• In Master year 1- 1st or 2nd semester, or a full year
• In Master year 2 - 1st semester

An internship abroad is possible in summer between Master year 1 and 2, or during Master year 2.

Conditions to go on exchange

Bachelor exchange

You can go on exchange when you have passed all courses of bachelor year 1 and all courses of bachelor year 2 that are taught during the semester in which you will go abroad.   

Master exchange

You can go on exchange when you have obtained your bachelor’s degree or when you have successfully completed the bridging or preparatory programme.

How to apply for an exchange?

Nomination EU destination

1. For study exchange, select your favorite destination from the list below and, ideally, also a back-up destination. For internship/thesis you are not limited to this list. 
2. Write a motivation letter (max. 1 page in Dutch or English)
3. Send your application to your exchange coordinator Prof. Thomas Merckx
4. Deadline is March 1st

Nomination non-EU destination

1. Select your top destination from this website and ideally a back-up destination as well. For internship/thesis you are not limited to this list.
2. Write a motivation letter (max. 1 page in English)
3. For study exchange, select one back-up EU destination from the list below
4. Send your application to your exchange coordinator Prof. Thomas Merckx
5. Deadline is December 12th
