Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence for Research Purposes
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) presents both opportunities and challenges for researchers. This technology has the potential to significantly impact the functioning of individual researchers and the research environment in the future. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has developed a policy position regarding the use of (generative) artificial intelligence in research processes. Find version 1.0 (October 11th, 2023) of the VUB AI-guidelines on Zenodo by clicking below! For the most recent version, visit our internal RESEARCH Sharpoint (VUB-researchers only).
The purpose of these guidelines is to assist researchers in the appropriate use of generative AI in their day-to-day research activities. They are applicable to use of generative AI in research processes. They do not apply to education. The guidelines outline basic criteria that researchers must comply with when using generative AI in research. For certain research purposes, VUB also provides specific instructions on what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate use. Additionally, the guidelines describe the benefits, risks and limitations of generative AI.
