The Sportsmix, what's that?

From mid-September until the end of June - with a short break in the winter and spring holidays - you can rely on Sportsmix for your daily or weekly dose of sports and fun.

During the academic lecture weeks we offer more than 30 sports sessions for over 20 sports* a week. During the past academic year, for example, students could practice the following sports: aikido, athletics, badminton, basketball, bodymix (aerobics), boxing, European sword fighting, karate, kendo, kickboxing, kinbal, floorball (indoor hockey), rugby, table tennis, dance, football, waterpolo, swimming, zumba...

We also offer a number of sports activities during study and exam weeks so that you can keep up your good habits. Research has shown that on average students who are active and stay active perform better in their studies than fellow students who are or do not.

Where and when?

Activities usually take place  after the lectures have ended, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sometimes we also plan activities at lunchtime (noon - 2 pm).

In Etterbeek

In Etterbeek al the sportsmix activties take place in & around the VUB Sportscomplex ( building L). There we have lots of sportsfacilities (swimming pool, sportshalls, rugby/soccer pitch so we can organize a broad offer of sportsmix activities for our students.

In Jette

In Jette, we organise a number of omnisports (choice between badminton, basketball, volleybal, table tennis, ...) every week in the Basic Fit sports halls on campus, where the participants, in consultation with the local VUB Sport Ambassador, can opt for a game of badminton, basketball, table tennis, volleyball or 5-a-side football. There is also one indoor football session per week and we offer kickboxing and yoga in the combat sports hall as part of the Sportsmix.  Every Monday  our sports ambassador Veerle will be present in the lounge of Basic Fit between 17.30 and 19.30h to answer all your questions about sports in Jette.

How join the Sportsmix?

With a sports card that includes a punch card you can switch between the sports in the Mix as much as you like in the academic year. If one sport is not your cup of tea, simply try another. Keen on more than one activity? No problem, there’s no limit to how many activities you can choose. It’s entirely up to you! However, keep in mind that for some sports the number of participants is limited. Reserving in advance and registering at the start of an activity via the VUB Sport app is mandatory (but thankfully also easy).
