What do you learn on this master programme?

Our IUPWARE programme is open to graduates (or equivalent) in engineering, agriculture, hydrology and other related subjects, and offers a comprehensive training in water resources engineering to engineers and scientists from both developing and industrialised countries. We blend various basic and applied courses, hydrology and engineering sciences associated with water resources development with organisational and managerial skills. Plus project-based learning, in which simulation tools are used on real test cases. You'll spend the first year in Leuven (20km from Brussels), and the second year primarily in Brussels.

Enrolment procedure

This programme is an interuniversity collaboration between Vrije Universiteit Brussel and KU Leuven. Graduates receive a joint degree from the two institutions. However, application and enrolment is only possible at the coordinating institution, i.e. KU Leuven.

After graduation

The water sector is overflowing with career opportunities. All over the world, our alumni can be found in government agencies, drinking water companies, water treatment agencies, consultancy agencies or NGOs as engineers or managers, or work as academics or scientists in education and research institutes. As a water resources engineer, you will play a decisive role in the development and management of aquifers and river basins. As a decision-maker and water manager of the future, you’ll be ready to take account of increased user demand and environmental needs by managing the limited water resources in a sustainable and responsive way.

Our master's degree opens doors in many different branches and sectors. You'll be able to work in the private sector, (non-)governmental organisations, or continue your academic career as a PhD researcher. Not sure which direction to choose? VUB will help you with your first steps on the job market.
