On Sunday 27 April, as part of Heritage Day celebrations, the annual rowing race between the University of Antwerp and VUB will take place in Mechelen. The renowned dragon boat race strengthens the collaboration between the two universities, the city of Mechelen, and the Hannah Arendt Institute. The latter will also serve as the base of operations, located at Zoutwerf near Huis De Zalm.
The dragon boat race features ornately decorated ‘dragon boats’, part of an ancient Chinese tradition. Each boat includes a steerer and a drummer to keep everything in rhythm and under control, while eight rowers power the vessel forward. Our VUB Foxes will be giving it their all.
Visitors will also have the unique opportunity to try their hand at dragon boat racing. Staff members, students, alumni, members of VKP, local students from Mechelen, and supporters – everyone is welcome to join in for a day of sport and fun. The main race, between students of both universities, will take place between 14:30 and 15:00.
