COOLSCHOOLS is an applied research project analysing the benefits of nature-based solutions for climate adaptation in school environments. The project explores how these nature-based climate shelters can serve as a driving force for urban transformation, with special attention to the needs and perspectives of children and young people.  

 

Program Highlights: 

  • Keynote presentations: Experts share insights on Green School Quality Standard (UNESCO) and school greening projects in Brussels (Opération Ré-création) 

  • Panel discussion: Coolschools researchers share research insights on the co-benefits of nature-based solutions in schools. 

  • Interactive Workshops: Discussions on past experiences and future improvements linked to implementation strategies for nature-based solutions in school environments, including nature-based education tools 

  • International Case Studies: Presentations of successful projects from Coolschools cities, including Barcelona, Paris, Brussels and Rotterdam. 

  • Site Visits: Visit to a primary school in Brussels that will be transformed into green climate shelter.
