About Nom de Dieu
The exhibition Nom de Dieu: Critique, Blasphemy, Satire...? at Pilar brings together works by renowned Belgian artists such as Félicien Rops, Wim Delvoye, Pjeroo Roobjee, and Carmen De Vos. This provocative exhibition explores how artists engage with themes of critique, blasphemy, and satire within the realm of Christian iconography.
Curators Kathleen Van Nuffel and Professor Emeritus Willem Elias use this exhibition to showcase how art can give a voice to free thinkers and make taboos open for discussion. The title, a playful nod to the Flemish expression nondedju (a variation of "Nom de Dieu"), perfectly encapsulates the layered and open-ended nature of the show.
