Put your green fingers to work at the CourJette Harvest Farm!
Are you a VUB graduate who values sustainability? Would you like to contribute to a healthier and more ecological food pattern for the people of Brussels? Or would you like to pick the most beautiful flowers? Then the CourJette self-harvest farm is for you!
For those who think in sustainable terms, supermarket vegetables and ready-made meals are a thing of the past. Luckily, there are projects such as the CourJette self-harvest farm, which is located on the VUB grounds at Laarbos in Jette. Here you can pick your own vegetables and take the fresh products home. The project has been a great success, so it was extended to include a flower picking field. It was given the name FleurAkker. Just as fruit and vegetables taste best when harvested locally and seasonally, flowers picked close to home and at their peak reflect a real connection to time and place. Pictograms and flags show what and how you can harvest and pick from Brussels' farmers. This way, you get more in touch with the food on your plate and the flowers you pick. Because both projects are so popular, CourJette is looking for many volunteers. As a committed VUB student, you can make an important difference!
Concretely, as a volunteer, you will focus on different aspects of the self-harvest farm, for at least two half-days a week. First of all, you help the employees at busy times. You choose between planting vegetables, sowing, weeding,... Next to that, you take pictures for the social media and the newsletter, so everyone is informed about all activities. CourJette also needs your creative brain. Together with the other volunteers, you think about a project that will make the self-harvest farm even more successful. No idea is too crazy, it can be completely out-of-the-box! There is also enough space to propose a personal project (making tea from the harvest, helping the beekeeper, ....). Domains that can already inspire you are electrical engineering, sustainable water management, sustainable energy forms, and circular energy. Or how about a DIY windmill, irrigation, an electric cargo bike, or solar energy? No idea is too crazy! So don't hesitate and register!
