Prof. dr. Thierry VandenDriessche is Director of the Department of Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine at the VUB Faculty of Medicine & Pharmacy. Building on more than 35 years of research experience n gene therapy, Prof. dr. VandenDriessche and his team aim to develop new gene therapy strategies to effectively treat or even cure life-threatening inherited diseases, particularly those affecting muscle.  

The ultimate goal of his research is to develop sustainable solutions that not only improve patients’ quality of life but also alleviate the socio-economic burden on society. 

In this lecture, VandenDriessche will not only highlight some of the past breakthroughs he and his team have achieved, but also share his vision to treat diseases of high unmet medical need by gene therapy in the future. The event is followed by a reception.
