About the chair

With the chair Hamamatsu Applied Photonics Innovation Hamamatsu Photonics wants to support the ongoing photonics innovation activities at VUB B-PHOT. The chair is the ideal vehicle to intensify mutual contacts between Hamamatsu Photonics experts and B-PHOT researchers, to exchange information on the latest research breakthroughs and their potential applications, and to explore the opportunities of durable collaboration.

The chair is part of the Faculty of Engineering.

Photonics

Photonics is the science and technology of light. As one of the present-day key digital technologies, photonics is essential to the functioning of new applications addressing the enormous global societal and environmental challenges of our times. Photonics are being used to in a wide range of industries, from sustainable energy and food safety to digital health and security, smart transport, building and communications systems.

Research group

VUB B-PHOT is the research and innovation centre of VUB that focuses on the domain of photonics. It is an international community hosting 70 experts from 17 countries all actively involved in the continuous pursuit of excellence in photonics education, fundamental research, innovation and industry support, and STEM.
