Researcher Marleen Keyaerts, renowned for her exceptional contributions to preclinical research and molecular imaging, has been nominated by Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) to become a member of the esteemed AcademiaNet network. Notably, Marleen Keyaerts joins a cohort of accomplished female researchers from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), including Karin Vanderkerken, Ann Nowé, Alison Woodward and Ilse Rooman.

AcademiaNet, a comprehensive database of accomplished women academics from various disciplines, aims to address the under-representation of women in academic leadership positions. The project acknowledges the need for tools that enable decision-makers to identify and engage proven female experts in scientific committees, panel discussions, appointment procedures, and awards. Moreover, AcademiaNet proves to be an invaluable resource for journalists and conference organizers seeking accomplished female experts to contribute to their work.

Dr. Keyaerts obtained her PhD in preclinical research on molecular imaging and therapy at the MITH lab of the VUB. In 2013, she was awarded a senior clinical investigator scholarship by the Research Foundation Flanders. Currently, Marleen successfully balances her role as a nuclear medicine physician with conducting basic and translational research at the MITH lab. Her research interests primarily revolve around the clinical translation of new radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and therapy. She also dedicates her efforts to cancer immunotherapy, with a particular focus on immune checkpoint blockade therapy and targeted radionuclide therapy.

By joining this prestigious group of VUB researchers in AcademiaNet, Marleen Keyaerts further strengthens the university's representation of exceptional women in academia. This collaboration not only showcases the remarkable achievements of these researchers but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring women in the scientific community.
