Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has appointed Elke Jorens as the new Policy Director of People&Organisation (P&O). Jorens, an alumna and fellow of VUB, brings extensive experience from her distinguished career at Accenture and Microsoft, where she held several leadership roles.

In her new position, Elke Jorens will develop and implement a comprehensive personnel policy for both academic and non-academic staff. She reports to the Chief Administrator and is a member of the Executive Committee of VUB, where she also serves as an advisor to the Academic Council.

I look forward to contributing to the further development of a stimulating and inclusive learning and working environment, utilising my corporate experience in combination with the humanistic values of my alma mater to enhance the human capital at VUB," says Elke Jorens.

Professional Background

Elke Jorens graduated in 1990 from VUB with a degree in Commercial Engineering and began her career as a consultant at Accenture. At Microsoft, she held various leadership positions, including HR Director for Belgium and Senior Director Head of Talent Acquisition for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As a fellow, she has been inspiring students and professors for several years with new insights into gender equality, innovation, and interdisciplinary learning and working. Her expertise in managing complex HR processes and fostering innovation in organisations will be invaluable to VUB.

Effective immediately, Elke Jorens will focus on further developing and strengthening VUB’s HR policies in line with the university's strategic objectives. Her appointment underscores VUB’s commitment to continuing to invest in an inspiring and innovative academic environment.
