Neuromodulation for pain relief
STIMULUS is a VUB research group and training consortium in which neuromodulation is central. Neuromodulation involves the technique of influencing nerve structures in an (in)direct way via electrical currents and/or medication. The research team is currently developing a study on DRG neuromodulation in CRPS patients. In DRG stimulation, one or more narrow electrodes are inserted and placed around the relevant nerve node (dorsal root ganglion = DRG) or nodes through the back. A stimulator is connected to this electrode that will attenuate the pain signals.
