Commemoratation and celebrations

As in previous years, we will stop at locations of historical significance for both our universities. Whereas the various commemorations were spread over two days in recent years, this year – on Wednesday, 20 November – we return to a one-day celebration. 

Programme 
  • 07.30 - Reception in the Hall des Marbres on ULB's Solbosch Campus
  • 07.40 - Floral tribute at the statues of Théodore Verhaegen and Francisco Ferrer
  • 08:.05 - Torchlight procession to and floral tribute at Square G
  • 08.30 - Breakfast in the Hall des Marbres 
  • 09.00 - Departure of shuttle buses to the VUB
  • 09.20 - Floral tribute and speech at De Stap
  • 09.40 - Departure of the shuttle buses to the Brussels Cemetery
  • 10.30 - Floral tributes and speeches at the graves of Théodore Verhaegen, Frans Kufferath and Henri La Fontaine
  • 11.05 - Departure to the National Shooting Range in Schaerbeek
  • 11.20 - Floral tribute and speech at the Field of Honour for the Executed
  • 12.20 - Departure to the Brussels City Hall
  • 12.50 - Joint VUB-ULB session in the Gothic Hall, by invitation of the Mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close
  • 13.30 - Friendship Toast in the Militia Hall of City Hall
  • 14.00 - Departure to the Sablon

From midday, students from the Brussels StudentenGenootschap of VUB and l'Association des Cercles étudiants of ULB will gather at the Grand Sablon, where we will join them. The celebration concludes on the steps of the Brussels Bourse, where we will sing the university anthems – 'Lied van Geen Taal' and 'Le Semeur' – at around 17.30.
