The VUB is also very open to Erasmus students through the organization of various activities
“I am not from Belgium myself, but from China. I am an Erasmus student here at the VUB. I myself rent an apartment in the center of Brussels. I also take the metro here, which is pretty easy since the stops are very close to the campus. When I first arrived here, the campus itself was a bit smaller than I expected, but that is certainly not a bad thing. I can easily find my way on campus. Especially finding the classrooms works well. The same applies to the restaurant on campus. For me, there was an adjustment period early on. The food here is very different from the food in China, but I always find something that tastes good to me. It is nice to walk around here as an Erasmus student and to experience cultural exchange. For example, I have already been approached by Belgian students who are studying Mandarin here and did their best to talk to me in Mandarin. The VUB itself is also very open to Erasmus students through the organization of various activities. The Kick-Off is an example of this that I personally find a very nice initiative. That is certainly something that I would recommend to everyone and I hope that the VUB will organize many additional activities in the future.”
On the occasion of the VUB’s 50th anniversary, prof. dr. Martina Temmerman asked the students in her introductory course on journalism genres to make portraits of people on the VUB campus. The ‘snapshots’ resulting from the project Humans of the VUB offer a lovely cross section of life on our university campus in 2019/20.
