Dr. Milos Mihajlovic and his colleagues at the research group of Prof. Mathieu Vinken at VUB are creating a sophisticated human liver model in order to gain insight into how artificial feeding, like parenteral nutrition, contributes to liver damage. While this type of feeding is necessary for critically ill patients to survive, it can cause considerable harm to the liver over time. The goal of this research is to minimize the risk of liver injury associated with artificial feeding.
