Opening an account requires the following documents:
- A passport or identification card;
- Proof of residence in Belgium (a lease contract with Belgian address);
- An employment or grant agreement.
Important: Certain banks also request proof of registration (of residence) with the municipality. An initial notification of arrival will not be accepted. Make sure to check which documents your bank requires.
If necessary, or pending the opening of a bank account with a Belgian bank, your salary can be paid to a foreign account number with a bank in the SEPA zone. If you don’t have an account in one of the countries in the SEPA zone, you will get paid once you have a Belgian bank account number.
